So, I have gotten into Big Brother 10, and its going to be an interesting season I think. I have to say a couple things though: Jesse has GOT TO GO! He is such an idiot. He is obsessed with his muslces, he isn’t that cute in the face, and he is constantly talking about how he “isn’t a dumb jock”. But, I think thou dost protest too much! He is so obnoxious! I cannot take many more weeks of him.
Then, there is his nemesis, Renny. (I think that’s her name). She is older and dumb as a box of rocks. She is so dumb, she repeats what Jesse says when they argue. I am so over the both of them. They have GOT TO GO!
Otherwise, I am finding the other players rather entertaining. I love to watch them play that game! I fell in love with Dick last season. I hadn’t watched in years, but Dick made me return to watching. Thanks Dick!

Well, Amy Winehouse’s husband got like 27 months in jail for assault. I am using this picture because that was one of her best. I hate to see her now, all emaciated and sickly looking. It’s such a shame that her talent is falling away from her. I wonder how she’ll react to this news. She didn’t show up to court for sentencing, but I hear that she’s been spending more time with Pete Doherty lately, and that’s a one way ticket to Cracktown! I hope that she finds her way, I really really do! Until then, I’ll just play her CD’s over and over and hope for something new…and hope that she doesn’t kill herself while we are waiting! Wouldn’t the next album be off the hook if she was able to channel some of her drama into her unique song delivery? So much material, so little hope!
I have recently found myself a new singer that I am in love with! I am a huge Amy Winehouse fan, but the truth of the matter is, she is far from producing any new songs and essentially isn’t doing a great job at performing her old ones. As much as a new CD would make my day, I accept the reality of the situation. That being said, I sought out similiar styled singers. I really didn’t have much luck initially, but then one day I heard this song on the radio and I knew that was the new singer I was looking for! DUFFY! This young woman from Wales, with an old soul, was able to tell my life story in her songs. You have to check out her new CD: Rockferry. She speaks to my soul and makes me feel zen all at the same time! I love that feeling! So, if you want that too, go check her out! She is remarkable and I am becoming one of her biggest fans! www.iamduffy.com

I just read an article in Newsweek that I found deeply disturbing. I highly recommend reading the article and developing your own feelings about it, the article is named: Young, Gay and Murdered. A young, 14 year old junior high school boy, was murdered by a classmate. In the classroom. At gunpoint. The victim’s name was Larry King. His killer is Brandon McInerney.
This is a murder involving a young gay male, Larry, who was open about his sexuality. So much so that he often would push the envelop and try out women’s clothing, shoes, accesories, flambouyance, attention getting activities to try out his new skin. He seemed to enjoy the attention. This in turn caused him to be more outrageous and daring, even walking up to boys he knew were straight and intentionally infering the possibility of a relationship with him. He even told some inflated truths to get a reaction from people. This is nothing outside the normal realm of young people finding their way. They push the limits, that is what this time in their lives is for. But, with a topic so foreign to those around him, there wasn’t anyone to advise Larry on being street smart when it comes to forcing your lifestyle on others.
Then there is Brandon, who was repeatedly embarrassed by Larry. Who himself was probably going through the normal motions of any child, questioning their sexuality. He had not probably fully figured out his place in the world. His sexuality to him wasn’t as clear as Larry’s was. I don’t know if Brandon is/was gay or not. That’s not really relevant. I do know that Larry pushed Brandon’s buttons, and it cost him his life.
Both boys were from highly dysfunctional homes. Larry from abandonment of parents…no wonder he yearned for attention. And Brandon, who’s father was convicted for assault on a number of occassions.
To me, there are 3 distinct problems here!
1. Where are the parents in this situation? Where is the network of those who care around these kids who can see the writing on the wall? Who is really giving a shit about them without a self promoting reason?
2. Why was Brandon able to access a gun, bring it into the school (unnoticed), and kill another child without anyone knowing he was armed?
and…
3. With children coming out earlier and earlier in a society that accepts homosexuality better than any society previously, why are there not lectures on this subject? OH! I already know the answer. It’s the same reason that I, as a social worker for an HIV/AIDS program, cannot go into the high schools and talk about the disease…because it involves sex…and that’s taboo!
It’s just a sad, sad situation that both these boys did not have to end up here. Larry could be alive and know that you have to respect other’s opinion as much as you are allowed to express your own and Brandon would know that violence is never the answer, it only sparks more negativitiy. But instead, one is dead that the other will spend his life in prison. 2 families torn apart, a community left to pick up the pieces, and it could all be prevented if people would just wake up and realize what’s up. Just stop, take a moment, take your head out of the ground, look around and see…the world has changed. It is our job as adults to make that change managable for our children. If we don’t, who will?
Okay, I think I am going to throw up now! I mean, this girl is still a child! And a FAMOUS child at that! Who is regulating what this child is doing? SOMEONE TAKE HER PHONE!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn’t look like you are going to keep that virginity until you are married chickie! And oral sex is still sex! Just in case you are wondering! And yet, this morning on Good Morning America the crowd was insane to listen to Hannah Montana…I mean really! Is THIS what little girls think is cool?

So, how nice it must be to be a celebrity! Khloe Kardashian was supposed to pull 30 days in jail because of a drunk driving charge. She checked into a LA jail this morning. She was released 3 hours later. WTF? “Due to overcrowding”. Didn’t that happen to Paris Hilton too? Oh I bet Paris is hot under the collar…I mean Khloe isn’t nearly as “famous” as she is and they got the SAME treatment! How dare they! lol Just goes to show…money can buy you out of almost anything! I mean, isn’t that how OJ got off? Just saying!
So, last night I was convinced by some of my girlfriends to go with them to Green’s Supper Club on HWY 29 right outside of Greensboro, NC. It was bike night. The male to female ration is 5:1. With those odds, even ugly girls can get some play! lol
It was actually quite fun! There is a big dance floor, kareoke, and 3 sections to the restaurant. There was a little something for everyone. It was definately entertaining. However, it was a bit odd that Kareoke involved mostly country music, yet the dance floor was mostly rap. AND the same people were getting down both ways! I did like the fact that there was some ethnic diversity, which showed me that everyone was welcome and I really like going to bars that have that attitude!
So, every Thursday is Bike Night and there isn’t a cover charge! I definately plan to go back and dance the night away once again! Maybe I’ll see you there!

So it seems that Catherine Heigl has upset the writers at Grey’s Anatomy. Her recent decline of an Emmy nod because she didn’t feel the work was worthy, has caused an upset over there.
I am a huge fan of the show, have watched it since Day 1! When Catherine’s character, Izzy Stevens, lost Denny (the patient with Congestive Heart Failure that she put her career on the line for to save his life, but he died anyway). I was crying as though I had lost an actual real life friend! I was impressed by her work and how she was able to make me feel her sorrow. I liked her.
Then, the next season, she had an affair with George, another resident who happened to have a wife, Callie. Incidentally, it was probably pretty cool for George and Izzy to have so many scenes together since in real life they are very close friends. Then, Catherine became “vocal”. Keep in mind, I believe by this point she had won an Emmy for her previous season’s work. She spoke out about her character being immoral and that she wasn’t happy with her story line. It was at that point that I got this “arrogance” vibe off of her. She seemed to be “above it” and “full of herself”. And now this. I think its time for Izzy to go. It’s obvious she isn’t pleased with Grey’s anymore. I hate to see her character leave the show after starting so well, but at this point, her scenes leave me feeling annoyed by Izzy now.
Funny, Grey’s put her on the planet, and her gratitude is gone. I don’t think she’ll be around in 5 years with her attitude. It’s a shame. She’s a good actress. I mean her movie characters are likeable, even though I don’t find her to be. (But keep in mind, she also dissed a character she played in “Knocked Up” and referred to the movie as a sort of embarrassment for her. Isn’t it the same movie that put her on the movie map? Oh well, I think her 15 minutes are counting down.
I will say one positive note for her. I appreciated her support of T.R. Knight (George) when it came to his being outed for being a gay man. But even that isn’t enough salvation for me!
Hello world. My name is Carol Napier and I am a 36 year old social worker for an HIV/AIDS program. I live in a rural town and work in a slightly larger town. I live in one state and work in another. (live on the border). I am a bleeding heart liberal which of course makes me a Democrat politically.
I have a lot of varied interests and plan to use this forum to express my opinion. Please keep in mind it’s MY opinion. Not everyone will agree with me or like what I say, but I am not one to let that deter me from expressing myself.
So, this is my blog. I hope you find it to be interesting, even if you don’t agree with me at times. So, enjoy!
